Causes of infertility
Smoking:
Smoking can make a woman years older in reproductive terms - significantly reducing her chances of successful IVF treatment.
Researchers work has shown after looking at over 8,000 women aged 20 to 40 who had had IVF treatment.
A 30-year-old non-smoker had the same chance of conceiving as a 20-year-old smoker.
Weight:
Studies show possibly being significantly overweight also cut women's chance of a successful pregnancy by a one third.
Causes of infertility in most women could include many factors; , idiopathic (unknown cause) infertility, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, sexually transmitted diseases such as Chlamydia, problems with ovulation and tubal dysfunction to name a few of the main causes of infertility.
Infertility in males has only become an area which has been researched over the past few years. The cause of male infertility is still not known, but some problems which have been identified include exposure to extreme heat, excessive alcohol and smoking, childhood diseases such as infections, congenital deformities, mumps, varicoceles and failed reversal of vasectomy.
